Soil Moisture Probes

The Liebe Group now has the ability to know exactly how much water is in the soil at any given time thanks to below ground moisture probes.

The probes are located west of Buntine on yellow sandplain (pear tree country), and will be used by local growers to understand how crops use water through the season and how water moves through the soil profile.

Currently the probes are being used to determine how stubble load (i.e. full stubble retention or bare paddocks) affects water infiltration and evaporation on a sandy soil. The probes were purchased with funds from GRDC and will collect data for the next three years.
